Week 4

This week we started to share our 6 purposes and functions of art and posted on our discussion page on E360

Delight:I chose this piece because I love whales and the peacefull and serenity of how they swim along with how smart they are and like to interact with humans.

Commemoration: This is the sept 11th memorial in New York, it is an infinity pool and around it is all the names of the people who parished in the 9/11 attacks
Persuasion: This art depicts the human civilization and the thin line between saving and destroying Mother Nature. It just takes that pull of trigger and we have destroyed Her.
Commentary: this is from Goya's artwork from the disasters of war, i was curious to see his other artworks and this one really struck a cord with me. It shows a women firing a canon, something alot of people would have never thought of happening giving the time period. Shows that everyone had to stand up and take control of the situation when no one else is able to.
Worship:This is my altar, usually to worship more than one God (usually a God and Goddess), each items is meant for the 5 elements, fire, water, earth.air and spirit.
Self expression: I chose this because I really want to have this someday and i like the colors, to me it expresses a fire in ones soul and uncontrollable like that of a fire.

Also took a look at some comics that show how much people are more connected to their phones instead of whats actually around them and conversing to to other people verbally and not with technology in the way.

Week 3

Read someones story about when they were in an meeting at work. He was getting impatient, bored so he started to doodle, something he hasn't done it since elementary school. He was so in his own little world that he didn't hear his CEO ask him "what is that?" when he noticed the CEO was talking to him and replied "It's a sword". I guess everyone thought it was funny because everyone started laughing at him and the CEO had the gale to take his notebook and show to all his co-workers which started their laughing fits all over again, making jokes about the doodle like "whats the dps" and a whole bunch of other childish questions. Towards the end of the story he says "I'm 40, and i havent drawn since i was a little kid. No idea way i did this but when I did this but of course when i decided to it's the worst possible place and the worst possible outcome."

What really irks me about this story is that this guy was showing his creative side and what he got in return was laughter and being the joke of his workplace and was shut down. It seems like in society you can express who are, if you do you will get laugh at, made fun of ect. It shouldn't be like that at all we are going about this the wrong way.

This week in class we brought a piece of artwork or artifact to present to the class, also started to review chapter 2, Which was the 6 functions of art which are:
1.Delight
2.Commemoration
3.Worship/Ritual
4.Commentary
5.Persuasion
6.Self expression
